Removing Rug Grease Stains

Grease stains are some of the worst possible stains for carpets and rugs to experience, with very indelible lipid fats and oils that can quickly penetrate and settle into their vulnerable fibers. Here’s a guide to removing rug and carpet grease stains, as devised by the rug and carpet stain removal experts here at Aladdin Oriental Rug.

First Method of Carpet and Rug Grease Removal

  1. Blot the grease stain as soon as possible with a clean white cloth, and try to soak up as much of it as possible. Then, apply cornmeal to it, as it will absorb the majority of the moisture.

  2. Get a stiff bristled brush, and brush the stain firmly to break through it’s solids.

  3. If you can still see the grease, apply a special dry cleaning solvent using a clean sponge.

  4. Apply dry spotter to the stain with a dry spotter recipe of 8 parts liquid dry cleaning solvent and 1 part coconut oil.

  5. Then use an absorbent pad to cover up the stain with more dry spotter.

  6. The pad should begin picking up the stain. If this method doesn’t work, try our second carpet and rug stain removal method.

Second Method of Rug and Carpet Grease Stain Removal

  1. Use a clean sponge with water to pat the stain.

  2. Then, put a few drops of white vinegar on it, with a special wet spotter made up of one part dishwashing detergent, 8 parts of water, and 1 part of glycerine – shaken well and stored inside a plastic bottle.

  3. Pour a large amount of the wet spotter onto a clean and absorbent pad, and put the pad right on the grease stain.

  4. As the pad soaks up the stain, you may need to replace it with a new pad soaked in the wet spotter. Keep doing this as much as necessary.

  5. Keep doing the first 3 steps as much as you need to to remove the grease stain.
